Correct the pH of RO water
RO product water is often slightly acidic, which makes it taste sour and corrode metal. A small, measured dose of food-grade sodium bicarbonate after the membrane raises alkalinity and brings pH into the normal drinking range.

What sodium bicarbonate does in your plant
- Raises alkalinity and pH. It buffers the slightly acidic water that comes out of the RO membrane, so the finished water tastes clean rather than sour.
- Protects tanks and pipes. Water with very low alkalinity is corrosive. Correcting pH makes it gentler on storage and distribution.
- Works with calcium and magnesium. Most plants dose it alongside calcium chloride and magnesium sulphate.
- A little goes a long way. Increase the dose gradually and check pH and TDS as you go.
Sodium bicarbonate is not softener salt. Many plants also use sodium chloride (common salt) to regenerate their water softener before the RO membrane. That salt is flushed to drain and is not added to drinking water. Sodium bicarbonate is the food-grade mineral that is dosed into the finished water. How plants use it
- Dissolve the powder in clean RO water to make a stock solution in your dosing tank.
- Dose it into the product water after the RO membrane, usually with a dosing (metering) pump.
- Start with a small dose, then check pH, TDS and taste and adjust step by step.

Sodium bicarbonate uses: kitchen, cleaning and water
- Baking: it's a leavening agent. Mixed with something acidic, it releases carbon dioxide and makes dough rise.
- Water treatment: it adjusts pH and adds alkalinity. That's what we sell it for.
- Fire extinguishers: it's the powder in most B/C dry chemical extinguishers.
- Cleaning and animal feed: other grades go into detergents and into feed as a buffer.

Common questions
Is metha soda the same as sodium bicarbonate?
Yes. Metha soda is the everyday name in Pakistan for sodium bicarbonate, also called baking soda, NaHCO3. Baking powder is a different product: it's baking soda already mixed with an acid.
What is the price of sodium bicarbonate in Pakistan?
Our food-grade sodium bicarbonate is Rs 800 per kg: Rs 800 for a 1 kg pouch, Rs 1,550 for a 2 kg box and Rs 3,800 for a 5 kg box. Delivery is extra.
How much does sodium bicarbonate raise the pH of water?
There's no fixed number, because the result depends on your water's alkalinity and dissolved carbon dioxide. What we can give you is alkalinity: 1 gram in 1,000 litres adds about 0.6 mg/L alkalinity (as calcium carbonate). Add it in small steps and check with a calibrated pH meter.
Does sodium bicarbonate add sodium to the water?
Yes, a little. 1 gram in 1,000 litres adds about 0.27 mg/L sodium. At normal doses that's small, but count it if your source water is already high in sodium.
Do you deliver outside Lahore?
